HOUSTON – HH (Honghua) Group Limited, the largest exporter of drilling rigs in China, today announced that it has signed a three-year memorandum of understanding with General Electric (China) Company Limited (“GE”). Under the agreement, GE will supply its Waukesha VHP gas engines to power drilling rigs used in new shale gas projects in China.
The agreement is the latest example of HH’s focus on delivering reliable, low-cost and high-efficiency solutions. The company will demonstrate multiple solutions for bi-fuel motors, land rig packages, shale gas exploration, offshore platform construction and land drilling at booth #5575 at the 2014 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, May 5-8.
HH “Honghua offers more than 650 drilling sets to customers, and around 80 percent of them are sold to markets outside of China in the past five years. The U.S., in particular, is the most important market for us”
HHHHwill particularly highlight its new partnership with GE as well as solutions for land and offshore drilling, including the 1500HP Beyond Drilling Rig and the TIGER Series. Also displayed in the booth will be the company’s solutions for shale gas and offshore platform construction. Built on its own research and development, HH’s products allow for improved safety and efficiency, while reducing risks and costs during offshore or land drilling.
“HH offers more than 650 units of all kinds of drilling rigs to customers, and around 80 percent of them are sold to markets outside of China in the past seven years. The U.S. continues to be one of the most important markets for us in the world,” said Zhang Mi, Chairman and President of HH. “We are showcasing the TIGER Series at OTC, as it responds to our customers’ need for affordable, easy-to-use offshore drilling platform.”
Last year, HH reported net income of 537.6 million yuan ($86 million) on sales revenue of 8.05 billion yuan ($1.3 billion). The company’s original product designs and advanced solutions have contributed to its continued success in overseas markets.
HH will showcase and discuss the following solutions in booth #5575 at OTC:
l Bi-fuel motors – The Waukesha VHP Engines will be fueled by on-site field gas or with commercial grade gas to generate 2.8 to 3 megawatts of on-site power. By utilizing field gas, drilling rig operators will be able to reduce their fuel transportation costs and optimize the availability of the rigs. With Waukesha gas powered engines, users have the option to run almost any gaseous fuel from 950 to 2600 BTU. That includes everything from hot field gases, commercial grade gas, LNG, CNG and up to HD-5 propane.
l Offshore Drilling System – HH’s TIGER Series is an affordable and easy-to-use solution for offshore drilling. It features low-cost, high-efficiency design concepts. The rig has a maximum drilling depth of 30,000 feet, an operational water depth of 3,000 feet with capability of upgrading to 5,000 feet, and a maximum hook load of 750ST. Built in China with imported subsea parts, the equipment is easy to operate and affordable to rent. The Quintuplex Pump Set used in the rig is capable of supporting large emissions and smooth flow rate without a discharge airbag.
l Land Drilling System – Several pieces of high-efficiency equipment are included in the system. The 1500HP Beyond Drilling Rig is a fully automated, unmanned operation centralized through the driller control room. The rig’s direct drive transmission structure incorporates top drive, draw works and the mud pump, enabling higher efficiency and fewer failure points. In addition, the modular design of the rig allows for fast installation and easy transportation.
The Light Triplex Pump Set has a maximum displacement of 62 L/S, an increase of 33 percent, as compared to the traditional pump of the same power. The weight of its moving parts is 73% lighter than traditional pumps, which results in a smaller inertial force and more stable operation. The Top Drive adopts a structure of mechanical-electrical integration, while the motor drives the main shaft directly. The simple structure results in low failure rate and low maintenance.
l Offshore Platform Construction – HH’s mobile crane, Honghai, has a 22,000-ton lifting capacity. The largest mobile crane in the world, Honghai is able to lift and launch multiple heavy structures. As a result, the construction of a single offshore platform takes less time, and the costs of dry dock, semi-submersible barges and additional cranes can be eliminated. This revolutionary technology in Honghai allows HH’s offshore platform construction yard to produce 6 to 10 platforms simultaneously. As such, the construction time will be largely reduced and the profitability will be significantly improved.
l Shale Gas Exploration – HH offers a total extraction concept that integrates several methods into one solution. The concept involves building a three-dimensional network integrating electricity, gas, water, telecommunications and roads. It uses gas to drill gas and a gas-electricity combination for electricity generation to power well-site drilling equipment. The solution also offers factory production and flow-line production to reduce well-site space and development costs while minimizing environmental impact.
HH’s 6000-horsepower hydraulic fracturing pump is the world’s most powerful fracturing pump. Its electric, frequency conversion technology allows for greater gas emissions and continuous high-power operations in the shale gas exploration. In addition, the flexible water tank addresses the issues of land use, water recycling and environmental protection. Therefore, it is a solution to the power efficiency problem in shale gas development and paving the road for energy distribution.
